St. Charles County, MO – The St. Charles City-County Library remains committed to ensuring that parents and guardians have the tools needed to provide easy access to guide and monitor their children’s library experience.

Following the Missouri Secretary of State’s recent announcement regarding the withdrawal of state funding for a digital library catalog app, the Library assures users that this decision does not affect access to its digital materials. Patrons can continue borrowing from Overdrive’s Libby, Kanopy, and Hoopla, all of which include parental controls or audience filtering options.

In 2023, the Library Board of Trustees approved a revised cardholder policy requiring all minors (ages 0-17) to have parental or guardian permission to obtain a Library card. By granting permission, parents or guardians acknowledge responsibility for their child’s use of Library materials.

“We appreciate the Secretary of State's commitment to protecting our children and seek his help to advocate for cooperation by Overdrive and other digital media providers to work with libraries to limit the escalating costs of these materials,” said John Greifzu, CEO of the St. Charles City-County Library.
