What is Ask Us

Need more time with a library staff member than you can get over the phone or if you just walk in? Schedule an Ask Us Appointment.

Ask Us is a one-on-one session with a staff member tailored to meet your specific information needs. The Ask Us service is available at most Library Branches, and appointments are usually 45 minutes long.

What kind of help can I get?

We can help with all different kinds of technology questions about your tablet, eReader, phone or laptop.

  • Getting started
  • Setting up an email account
  • Sending group emails
  • Recording a video and sharing it with friends
  • Organizing and backing up files
  • Downloading and using apps

We can also teach you how to use Library databases to:

  • Create resumes
  • Start your family tree
  • Prepare for college entrance exams
  • Research businesses

Test Proctoring Services

The St. Charles City-County Library offers test proctoring services for students taking online courses and are required by their teachers/professors to take an exam in front of a proctor/library staff member. Test proctoring services are offered at multiple, but not all branches across the district (see form for available Library branches):

Make an Appointment

Students should complete the Request for Proctoring form at least 1 week prior to taking the test in order to allow for scheduling. If the chosen branch is unable to accommodate the request, a referral to a different branch will be made.

The student is responsible for:

  • Making all arrangements with the educational institution giving the test.
  • Bringing all necessary supplies, including pencils, pens, calculator, etc.
  • Any return postage.
  • Printing costs at the rate of $0.10 per page.

A valid St. Charles City-County Library card is required for proctoring services.

Public PCs in branches are not able to download software. If the test requires the use of Public PCs, students are encouraged to test the computers in advance to check for compatibility with the test site/software.

Tests will be administered according to the directions issued by the educational institution.

The Library does not offer continuous proctoring, rather students will be seated in a public area that allows for supervision by branch staff. Students are responsible for communicating this to their institution.

The Library reserves the right to have a representative administer the test if the proctor should become unavailable. Students who repeatedly cancel or reschedule appointments may be denied service.
